[00:00:07] Welcome back.
[00:00:09] It's March 8th, the third Sunday of Lent.
[00:00:23] Let's begin with a passage from John.
[00:00:27] Jesus answered and said to her, everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again.
[00:00:33] But whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst.
[00:00:38] The water I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
[00:00:45] The woman said to him, sir, give me this water so that I may not be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.
[00:00:55] John 4, 13, 15.
[00:01:08] Let's reflect on today's Gospel.
[00:01:18] The Gospel story about the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well includes a great deal.
[00:01:24] It tells about who Jesus is, the gifts he brings, his work, true worship, and the nature of faith.
[00:01:34] The most significant lesson, however, is the way that Jesus handles all that, especially in the light of the characters who are presented in this gospel.
[00:01:49] First of all, there was a great lack of understanding, not only on the part of the woman, but on the part of the disciples and then the villagers.
[00:02:00] Jesus did not get impatient with this lack of understanding or think they therefore deserved only a shallow message.
[00:02:09] We also see the struggle of Jesus to get them to go from the material to the spiritual, from the surface to deeper meanings.
[00:02:19] We see this when he talks about water, food, and messiahship.
[00:02:25] We also note Jesus reaction to their exasperating slowness, their sinfulness, their mockery, their prejudice against Samaritans who were of Jewish stock but had separated from the Jewish people and allied themselves with some of the Jewish enemies, and their simple curiosity.
[00:02:49] He was very patient.
[00:02:52] He tried to tell them that he was the Messiah, a fact that in many other Gospel stories he has asked them to keep to themselves.
[00:03:09] How patient am I with the misunderstanding of others?
[00:03:18] Maybe I should talk to the Lord about that.
[00:03:30] Spend some quiet time with the Lord, Sa.
